The Simpsons has earned quite the reputation for seemingly predicting the future. It’s actually a bit of a meme at this point, with fans pointing out how many things in the real world appear to have been "predicted" by the show, sometimes years in advance. While some of these predictions are purely coincidental or the result of broad satire, others do seem oddly prescient.

The "Quarantine and Social Distancing" (COVID-19)

  • What happened: In "Marge in Chains" (1993), during the outbreak of the Osaka Flu, the entire town of Springfield is quarantined, with people being forced to stay at home and socially distance to prevent the spread of the disease.
  • Reality: The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to global lockdowns and social distancing measures. Businesses, schools, and public spaces were temporarily shut down, and people were instructed to stay at home to curb the spread of the virus. The Simpsons had already explored these measures almost 30 years before they became a reality.
