The Simpsons has earned quite the reputation for seemingly predicting the future. It’s actually a bit of a meme at this point, with fans pointing out how many things in the real world appear to have been "predicted" by the show, sometimes years in advance. While some of these predictions are purely coincidental or the result of broad satire, others do seem oddly prescient.
The Fall of the Berlin Wall (Episode: "Bart vs. Australia", 1995)
- What happened: In the episode, Bart’s actions cause a diplomatic crisis with Australia, and at one point, the Berlin Wall is shown falling, signaling the end of communism.
- Reality: The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, and though this was before the episode aired, the joke was actually made in the context of global political shifts, which mirrored the broader collapse of the Eastern Bloc and the end of the Cold War.
