The Simpsons has earned quite the reputation for seemingly predicting the future. It’s actually a bit of a meme at this point, with fans pointing out how many things in the real world appear to have been "predicted" by the show, sometimes years in advance. While some of these predictions are purely coincidental or the result of broad satire, others do seem oddly prescient.
The "Cloud Computing" (Data Storage) (Episode: "Homer the Whopper", 2009)
- What happened: The episode includes a reference to the “cloud,” where data is stored online rather than on physical servers, way before it became widely known.
- Reality: By the 2010s, cloud computing had become the dominant method of storing and accessing data. Services like Google Drive, Dropbox, and iCloud allow people to store photos, documents, and media in the cloud, accessible from any device connected to the internet.
