The Simpsons has earned quite the reputation for seemingly predicting the future. It’s actually a bit of a meme at this point, with fans pointing out how many things in the real world appear to have been "predicted" by the show, sometimes years in advance. While some of these predictions are purely coincidental or the result of broad satire, others do seem oddly prescient.
The "Censoring of Video Games" (Doom and Gloom) (Episode: "The Simpsons Game", 2007)
- What happened: In the Simpsons Game, a parody of video game culture, there’s a subplot about video game censorship, referencing the "violent" video game debate.
- Reality: In the 2000s and 2010s, there were numerous debates and laws around regulating video game content, especially violent or explicit games like Grand Theft Auto, as well as the impact of gaming on young people.
